Satin Cord, Wax Cord and Basting Needle
Satin cord is the perfect cord for stringing your own handmade baby toys. At Jootjes Crochet Gifts, we recommend emphatic satin cord >1.5 mm for making baby teething toys. This so that it is safe enough for use in this type of creation. We also sell 1 mm cord. This is for making models that can be taken apart again (for photo shoots) or for making key chains. Satin cord is super sturdy by itself and is usually threaded back and forth several times when used. All of our cord can therefore go through the beads at least 2x. Here, however, the use of combination pliers can be useful to pull the needle with thread through the opening in the beads. Breakage does not happen overnight, but always check your handmade teething toys regularly for wear and tear or loosening/sufficient tightening of the knots.

Satin cord is commonly used to make teething rings, pacifier cords, pram string, mobile or handmade baby gyms. Rosanne Briggeman of Knufl also describes in her book it uses this beautiful smooth satin cord for her wonderful creations. Note that many books by our favorite crocheters talk about 1 mm. So this is actually too thin, our advice; Replace with 1.5 mm this we have in similar and even more colors to choose from.

We deliberately chose to sell the cord in a very cheap price and then by the meter. We deliberately choose to offer this by the meter and not by the half meter. It’s better to have a little wider availability of satin cord when stringing teething toys. That way you can be sure to go back and forth multiple times and pull/seal the knots with good strength.
