Satin cord
Satin cord is the perfect cord for threading your own handmade Baby toys. At Jootjes Haakcadeautjes we strongly recommend using satin cord larger than 1.5 mm for making Baby teething toys, so that it is safe enough for these kinds of creations. We also sell 1 mm cord, which is suitable for making models that can be taken apart again (for photoshoots) or for making keychains. Satin cord is naturally very strong and is often threaded back and forth multiple times during use. All our cord can therefore pass through the beads at least twice. Using a combination pliers can be handy to pull the needle with thread through the opening in the beads. It doesn’t break easily, but always check your handmade teething toys regularly for wear or loosening and ensure the knots are snug.

Satin cord is commonly used for making teething rings, pacifier cords, stroller straps, mobiles, or handmade Baby gyms. Rosanne Briggeman of Knit also describes in her book using this beautiful smooth satin cord for her gorgeous creations. Note that many books by our favourite makers mention 1 mm. This is actually too thin; we recommend replacing it with 1.5 mm, which we offer in comparable and even more colours to choose from.

We have deliberately chosen to sell the cord at a very low price and per count. We intentionally offer it by the count rather than by the half count. It’s better to have a little extra length of the satin cord when threading teething toys. That way jij can be sure jij can go back and forth multiple times and tighten the knots with good force.
