DIY keychain dad Nocti the Owl – Copper Amber Brown

Materials: silicone beads & keychain materials
Difficulty: Simple – Medium

This set contains all the supplies needed to make this silicone bead keychain. In this case specifically the keychain from this set for Father’s Day, using the half flowers and half circles. We also list all the materials from this set above. If you want to replace an item, you can also assemble it yourself using this list. You simply search for the supplies and then replace the part with another.

A keychain like this is very easy to make. We do recommend using a combination pliers and beading needle, possibly in combination with a loop turner. If you do not have these yet, you will also find them among our tools. First, a snap hook is supplied by keychain. This is a hook with a closed charm attached to it, to which you can make the keychain by using the satin cord.

You take the satin cord and fold it in half. Now you have a loop on one side and two ends on the other side. At the bottom of the musketonhaak there is, as mentioned, a semi‑round part. This is where we will attach the cord. You hold the satin cord at the side of the loop and thread it a little through this opening. Then you take the ends, pass them through the loop and pull tight. Below you see an example with a round key ring, but this principle translates in the same way to the musketonhaak.

DIY keychain create start loop tutorial

You can now start stringing the beads onto this. Optionally, you can create a knot at the top before stringing and pull your beads over it. We usually don't do this ourselves because we prefer to use smaller beads and you can't hide the knot very well in it. Furthermore, we feel it contributes little to a creation like this. An extra knot here doesn't provide extra quality or security. It adds nothing except possibly a knot that is difficult to hide. After you have strung all the beads on, you need to make another knot. We recommend not using a flat knot for keychains. The ends will then tend to stand to the left and right. What you do is lay an e-shaped loop on the table, then pass the ends through this loop.

DIY keychain create end knot tutorial

Slowly pull this towards the beads. Then make sure that the beads are as tight as possible on the cord against the keyring. Then, with your other hand, slide the knot as much as possible and tighten the knot. This way of making a keychains is a real must-have skill. The first time might require some practice, but the more you do it, the easier it gets! Cut off the ends about 1 cm after the knot. Another tip: briefly melt the ends with a lighter. I often light the lighter and, with a smooth motion, just pass the ends by/through it. This will prevent your keychain from fraying.
