Satin cord
Satin cord is the perfect cord for stringing your own handmade baby toys. At Jootjes Haakcadeautjes we strongly recommend using satin cord thicker than 1.5 mm for making baby teething toys, so that it is safe enough for these creations. We also sell 1 mm cord, which is intended for making models that can be taken apart again (for photoshoots) or for making keyrings. Satin cord is naturally very sturdy and is often threaded back and forth many times during use. All our cord can therefore be passed through the beads at least twice. Using a combination pliers can be handy to pull the needle with thread through the opening in the beads. It doesn’t break easily, but always check your handmade teething toys regularly for wear or loosening and make sure the knots are tightened sufficiently.

Satin cord is often used for making teething rings, pacifier chains, stroller straps, mobiles or handmade baby gyms. Rosanne Briggeman of Knufl also describes in her book that she uses this Beautiful smooth satin cord for her lovely creations. Note that many books by our favourite crocheters specify 1 mm. This is actually too thin; our advice is to replace it with 1.5 mm, which we have in comparable and even more colors to choose from.

We have deliberately chosen to sell the cord at a very low price per metre. We also deliberately offer it by the metre rather than by the half metre. It’s better to have a slightly larger supply of satin cord when threading teething toys. That way you can be sure you can go back and forth several times and tighten or secure the knots with good force.
